Solder Explained

Did you know that...
... the atomic weight of lead is 82, its symbol is Pb, its density at 300k is 11.4. Tin’s symbol is Sn, and its electron configuration is ... oh, never mind, that’s way too much information.

Solder is an alloy of tin and lead, and the proportion of the two affects the melting point, but in a strange way. The most popular alloy for almost all stained glass work, and most definitely copper foil work is 60/40 (60% tin, 40% lead... Helpful Mikey)(a titanic intellect in a world full of icebergs...Ed). Looking at the two metals by themselves we see that tin melts at 450F and lead at 621F. But something really weird happens when you combine the two- the melting point drops down to as low as 361F depending on the mix of the two.

30 / 70 496F
50 / 50 421F
60 / 40 375F
63 / 37 361F

If we continue to raise the amount of tin to lead past 63% the melting point begins to rise again to where it is 450F at 100% tin, therefore 63/37 solder has the absolute lowest melting point. Pretty weird, eh? (what, you forgot about Marv Albert?...Mikey) And you thought that ratio was a gimmick? With respect to cost, the last time Stan (Mike’s metals commodities broker) checked, tin was about ten times more expensive than lead, telling you why solder prices can vary so extremely according to the amount of tin they have.

FIG ACCUSES SWISS CHEESED GLASS WERKS OF COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT FOR USE OF THE WORD 'GLASS'

Fantasy In Glass Owner Mikey filed suit in federal Supreme Court in Ottawa today accusing Swiss Cheesed GlassWerks of copyright infringement for widely using the word 'Glass' in the title and marketing of their products. FIG claims de facto exclusive legal use of the word. "We have established the strongest brand name in the history of modern civilization. Whenever someone sees the word 'Glass' they immediately think it should be preceded by the words 'Fantasy In'. so we want to avoid any confusion amongst consumers," said company owner Mikey.
Attorneys for Swiss Cheesed intend to vigorously dispute the suit as 'frivolous'. Attempts to placate the staff of Fantasy In Glass with Cheesed labelled T-shirts and aprons have proven unsuccessful (thus far).

Last night, as I was drinking my third Shirley Temple of the night (yes, I do push the envelope at times), the late and great Chester Burnett (Willie Dixon's muse) was crackling and popping on the turntable (vinyl rules, especially Chess Records vinyl!), and The Wolf was in all his glory he was. How Many More Years was the tune. Who knew how topical it would be as he howled those words.

It reminded me that not only is stained glass something that brings us joy, inspires and invigorates us, but so does the workings of a great artist like Howling Wolf.
As such, I have mandated the balance of January as Old Blues Artists Month. Don't like the blues? Maybe try the malls, 'cuzz that's all we're going to play.
As an aside, music wouldn't sound as good as it does without the great guidance of and equipment procurement by such great guys as Gary at Harrington Audio. If you are considering any stereo or home theatre purchase and need some help, advice and equipment I can't speak more highly of a guy like Gary- website here...

Anyone can buy a Taurus III Ringsaw in the States in a retail store for $324.00.
That's about $200 less than what you have to pay wholesale for the same saw here in Canada. A substantial difference that cannot be explained away and justified by any added costs of landing the saw here.
Came across an article in the paper the other day on why we pay so much more for goods in Canada compared to the U.S.- seems we have less competition.

We've just purchased another large kiln (from those lovely folks at Coneart)(*NB: it's CSA Approved- be wary of others offering kilns sourced out from the U.S. that are not electrically legal for installation in Ontario). This one (measuring 42" x 24" x 13" high) will be set up on the main floor adjacent to the retail area of Fantasy In Glass (located in the Swiss Cheesed Glasswerks Building at 703 The Queensway, Toronto) allowing us to run the kiln supervised (only the staff are unsupervised) all day long and allows us to offer more capacity for others to have their projects fused by us.
We are also beginning to write up and publish some of our own in-house experiments and projects for hand-outs. This goes in concert with Zenia's hard work in the past few weeks setting up a FIG Fusing Resource Centre with patterns, firing schedules, project sheets, and various technical articles.

Since we began to emphasize and increase our selection of System 96 glass and products, sales of fusible glass have really taken off.

We have another truck delivery due in tomorrow from the U.S. (we also have an order pending from our one and only Canadian glass supplier, but with a 60% fill rate we have no choice but to continue to source out goods from the States).
Lots of new glass and chemicals (unusual as we normally can't order them during the winter months with the threat of freezing)- we have a great new Boron Nitrite mold release in a pressurized spray can that will retail for less than $30- as well as a bunch of tools including the great (Mikey's Fav') Mitsuboshi super cutter (yes, after 35 years, there finally is a glass cutter worthy of being considered a match, if not superior to the old standby Toyo Supercutter.
And Mikey still has it on sale this month at only $36.88 or almost the cost of a Toyo replacement head.

Just got a flyer this week from a supplier offering some glass at 30% off.

Wow! Big saving, right?

But let's look closer-

The glass that's on sale is a line that was discontinued well over a year ago. When glass prices were lower.

So, is it 30% off that price from over a year ago? On this discontinued glass.

Or is it based on glass prices today for a different line?

Seems it is.

We've had the luxury of being able to play a little bit lately and thought we'd share some of our experiments with you.

This is our take on the Puddles Project we've talked about here. Very easy and very effective!

Rather than simply stacking glass for the initial fuse, we used a stainless steel dam for this first step.

Care to try this at home? We will lend you our dam free of charge.

1. Six pieces of opal Sys96 glass loaded up in a stainless steel dam (lined with some fibre paper)

2. Forgetting to take a pic of the block fused and intact, we show you the block after the first strike of the hammer. No need to be artistically careful here- just wack it and get out some of your frustration (it's not true Zenia was thinking of Mike here).

Startling New Hue Named 2012 "Color of the Year"!

Sherwin Williams' “Boyz-N-Berry”, a deep rich purple with slight red undertones, represents the mainstreaming of purple. It is mature and elegant yet has a youthful edginess. It reflects our changing mindset on so many issues—off center and unconventional, spiritual, meditative- yet impulsive. It is serene and in-control.
North America, South America, Asia, India and Europe had almost identical reports on this hue. We see in this color the “take back control of my life” that is entering the global consciousness.
It's a hue for creativity and irreverence; glancing sideways at its traditional roots. From hospitality to home, from youth market to luxury goods, purple has as much masculine as feminine appeal. Real men wear purple.

“Boyz-N-Berry” in design projects.

• Purple is the complement to yellow which the underlying color of the new lighter wood tones. It makes a wonderful accent color for spaces that are either wood heavy or have elements with a yellow cast prevalent in many laminates and vinyls.
• A warm taupe teamed with purple will induce a feeling of trust and serenity. [Yellow and purple is said to be the most healing combination]
• Creams and whites added to purple create a sense of fresh openness. Whites constituted a large part of the color story representing the consumer “need” for cleansing and renewal.
• Grey paired with purple and cream completes understated elegance. Pop it with brighter hues for youth appeal.
Updating color need not be budget breaking. It can be as simple as accent walls, art and rugs, updating color in guest services brochures for hospitality projects or strategically placed color in display walls for retail. Adding the right color can soothe and inspire your client into a more positive experience that will enhance their life and your bottom line.

Gold leafing and custom gluchipping- just some of the amazing ornamental surface treatments historically done to glass and now, sadly and slowly dying out.
Here's a well produced and very interesting video (just try to ignore the annoying ringing bells soundtrack- Pink Floyd he ain't) of one of the current masters- David A Smith- a name that has become synonymous in Sign-Writing and Glass gilding circles, with high quality, hand crafted reverse glass signs and decorative silvered and gilded mirrors.

Wow, another revolutionary new grinder from those folks at Gryfun- home to the ‘I’m too lazy to stand and grind for a sec’ Twyster Grinder (Chubby Checker and The Fitness Institute should sue…)!
This amazing new model comes with two heads, water reservoir and special high capacity sponge. Incredibly, it uses only 1/2 oz of water or about 1/1000th of that of competing models, but must be filled about eight thousand times while in use. (letters to ed@fantasyinglass.com).

Fusing Seminar Nov. 26

Due to the latest mishap caused by Figimodo and his uncontrollable libido, we have had to reschedule the next fusing seminar.

The new date is Saturday Nov. 26, from 10am to 4pm.
And we still have some room (now in our newly refreshed 2200' basement studio).

This is a full one-day six hour course that has been set up to cover everything from the basics to more advanced techniques of fusing regardless of your knowledge level. Taught by Louie who's been with us for over twenty years!).

Mikey will also make an appearance and walk you through the process of figuring out a firing schedule and then how to enter that program into a kiln computer controller.

Not only will you get a cool syllabus with CD and learn from the master herself, you will actually get to play with sharp glass and stringers and noodles and all manner of things and make as much stuff as you possibly can within that day and to have it all expertly fired by Mikey.

Now pay attention 'cuzz pricing is complicated (I'll type slowly).

Cost for the 6 hour day is $195.00, *but this includes a store credit of $50.00 so you can choose your own materials.

What's Going On At Bullseye Glass

There are some times when an issue rattles around in my head causing me confusion and perplexion (most likely not a real word but it should fire Gary Brown up for a response...).

One that currently has me in a quandary is a somewhat new program instituted by Bullseye Glass.

It's a a new on-line educational program and they are inviting you to join. This program is made up of on-line video lessons.

The surprising thing to me about this recent trend from Bullseye (and their continuing injection into the retail market) is that they are charging $39 for this service.

Now, Bullseye and Fantasy In Glass have had a long, profitable, friendly and yes, at times, even contentious relationship going back almost thirty years. We were even one of only a handful of Bullseye dealers in Canada for more than a decade.

And while we are no longer a dealer and carry their products to a much lesser extent that we used to (see here) we have always had tremendous affection and respect for them as a quality manufacturer of glass and sundries, right down to the smallest item and detail (and I mean smallest- even their ziplock bags for documentation are the heaviest plastic ones I've ever seen).

And the bulk of that goodwill they've generated over the years comes not just from producing such wonderful glass, but also from their continuing research in glass chemistry and fusing, and their willingness to share that with you, me and yes, even the competition.

So what's the quandary you ask?

Well, they have now begun to charge for knowledge.
Firstly, I understand that to produce a video (especially in the typical top-quality fashion that Bullseye will do it) does cost money.

I also know that these costs have to be recouped somehow- such as through increasing the price of the product, or by the continuing generation of good will that people would support their product with greater sales over the competition.
But Bullseye surely recognizes that knowledge helps grow the field of glass, and hopefully endears those who come to glass, to make their purchases of that manufacturer.
That's why we were so supportive of Bullseye Glass (over Spectrum) for so many years when so few others were.

Bullseye is a manufacturer.

They want to sell to me.

They want me to invest in their inventory, and promote their product.

They have a system of distributors who are supposed to carry their product more extensively, to support us the lowly retailer.

But today, we find distributors being allowed to fail in their obligations and now we see Bullseye shortcutting the supply chain and selling direct at retail.

They want to sell to me and then they also want to sell to my customers at the same time.

And now they want to sell teaching directly to my customers.

I'm really not sure where this is going, hence the rattling in my head.

Figimodo Does It Again!

Seems Figimodo had some monkey business planned with his girlfriend Esmerelda the other night.
After sharing a great bottle of Acme Merlot (he liked the colour of the box the bag of wine came in), (and the twist-off cap was handy for resealing- hey the guy's 6" tall- how much booze do you think he can handle- these things are important to fictional characters) he succumbed to the parfume aroma of the wine and came up with a brilliant idea.
'Let's transform the basement into a HUGH hot tub' he slurred.

Well, the rest is history. Best laid plans of mice and hunchbacked fictional characters and all that as Gary Brown might say.
Things went a little astray. Basement flooded. Mikey's collection of little white table doilies all ruined. Not amused!
Needless to say Figimodo will be doing extra yard work and other unpleasant sundry tasks until restitution has been made. The studio will take a few days to dry out and we will be back to our regularly scheduled programs after the weekend ....

Mikey in his genius has packaged it all up into nice little clear boxes weighing six ounces. When Mikey started this blog well over five years and about a thousand entries ago, he decided that it would be all about the trials and tribulations of a lowly retail business owner. There aren't many avenues available for customers to see behind the curtain and perhaps better understand what happens on a day-to-day basis in a store and he thought that might offer an interesting perspective. He also wanted to educate and entertain totally free of commercialization and intrusive ads.

The Rumours Apparently Are True

We heard some rumblings that Desag was no longer producing their very popular GNA line of drawn antique glass. Gary Umber found that hard to fathom (he talks like that) and just assumed that it was yet again another round of reductions from OOCSGS, given their regular cutting back of selection and inventory. A quick call by Mikey to Donald at Desag however confirmed the above.
It seems that the Desag furnaces prematurely broke down earlier than expected and will take well over a year to rebuild and get back on line. The only GNA that will be available for the next while is their clear.
We did manage to pick some up from an American supplier (but not all colours) so if you are working on a project keep this in mind.
And the next time you're in, ask us to show you their GNA Red- stunning!
On another note, all 20 (except Red) or so GNA colours have the same COE and are therefore compatible for fusing!

After three months, it seems that once again we are worthy of living on the edge and to patina to our hearts content.
The back story is that some government agency felt that black patina was so dangerous a substance that it should not be offered for sale in its existing format. Apparently people such as Gary Brown needed to be protected from themselves.
It has now been relabelled (I can't see the difference, can you?) and is once again available and sits dangerously, quivering on our shelves...
*NB- We also will refill your old Black Patina container for you for a buck less!

A Few Things to Crow About In the First Person

I was absolutely blown away this summer by the Stained Glass Museum found at the Navy Pier at Chicago's waterfront. Not only is the quantity overwhelming, but the quality even more so.
Who even knew there was such a thing?
It's always nice to trip across a beautifully done glass window (of which there are many here in Toronto- just take a trip through Mount Pleasant Cemetery and peak into the odd mausoleum as an example) but to encounter so many in one place was just awe inspiring.
Of prominence were the windows of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Studios- so many of his finest works all in one place, and many very familiar to those who have been doing or appreciating stained glass for any length of time. I mean, I've got many a book with these windows in them- and now I was fortunate enough to see, examine and appreciate them up close and personal.
Over the next while we'll be posting them on our website- go here- as well as putting them up on our Facebook page (look for Fantasy In Glass and even Figimodo who has his own page).

I was debating making mention of the loss of a great innovator today as they will be many over the next few days.
And besides this is a blog about the trials and tribulations of stained glass and fusing store owner. But as I sat here thinking I realized that I did, after all, speak about Louis Tiffany here just the other day. Also a giant- at least in our industry, another visionary that had a profound effect on us.
So, talk about Steve I will.
The Apple cofounder brought in a new era with his insight and forethought shaping our lives through his inventions and products
Fantasy In Glass only runs today as smoothly(?) and efficiently as it does because of Steve's vision.
I can build and update our website at will keeping it absolutely up to date, write these musings as I see fit and price and control inventory all easily because of Steve.

Heck, even on those days when on a whim i declare it Tom Waits music day, I can load up my iPod and just do it.

Spectrum Score Magazine

The Spectrum Glass Company has been publishing The Score Magazine for well over twenty years. Where it once was a printed and stapled 8 page booklet, today it is a mere shell of itself as it has now shrunk down to a one page email note.
One thing though that they do deserve a bit of credit for is the issuing of some large format patterns. This issue's two samples are great.

The process of art glass production really is like alchemy- mysterious and secretive, but in this video, Eric from Uroboros talks and shows you how it's done.

I know, we ran this video a couple of months ago, but it does warrant a repeat viewing. Besides Gary Brown wasn't paying attention according to Dot The Missus.

While Eric may not be the most electrifying person to host this video, it is his company and he was there at the beginning of the North American Art Glass revival of the late seventies.

Have patience as the video shots of their glass being mixed and rolled is fascinating.

Kind of a Cool Thing to Try, from Bullseye

Frit balls—easy to make and fun to use!

Spread out pieces of coarse frit (0003) on a primed kiln shelf, leaving space around each piece. Fire hot enough to round out the frits, usually 1500°F (816°C) with a 20-minute hold. There's no need to anneal. Open the kiln and voila, you'll find frit balls! Once they’re cool, rinse with glass cleaner and rub dry to remove primer dust. For opalescent styles that pick up primer, do a quick soak in CLR (calcium lime rust remover) before rinsing and drying. When clean, the frit balls are ready to use as design elements or for building larger forms.

The frit balls shown here were made with Opaline Striker frit, which should be fired on the cool side to achieve a pleasing translucent quality: 1480°F (804°C) with a 16-minute hold. Get Opaline Striker frit working notes.

To make the Opaline frit-ball bowl shown above, first create a dam by cutting a 5.5" hole in a sheet of 1/8" fiber paper, leaving the border intact. Place the dam on a primed kiln shelf and load it up with about 5 ounces of frit balls. Tack the balls together by firing at a rate of 300°F (167°C) per hour to 1375°F (746°C) for 10 minutes. Slump the piece in a separate firing using mold 8746 . We recommend annealing in both firings.

Getting a Reaction

Something that's been getting a lot of interest lately is the whole notion of reactiveness. While that normally means Zenia yells at Mikey and he reacts, such is not the case here. UROBOROS has created two unique glass formulas for System 96 that are designed to create an interface colour, or a “reaction”, when melted against certain other colours. This occurs when ions from the two adjacent glasses migrate and mingle when the glasses become hot and fluid. Given the right glass chemistry, the co-mingled ions form a very thin coloured line, or “reaction”. Since their formulae react to create a noticeably reddish hue they named them Red Reactives: as in Red Reactive Transparent, and Red Reactive Opal.

The primary ingredient needed in a partner glass to generate a reaction colour with this Reactive glass is Copper. Copper is present in many blue and blue-green glass colours, but in some cases in too low a concentration to create a noticeable reaction.

For simplicity, all System 96 partner colours have been graded for their potential to react into three categories: Strong, Medium, and Mild. You will find that the intensity of the reaction colour will get stronger with longer, hotter, or repeat firings. This is because the copper ions have more time to mingle with their friendly reactive partners in the adjacent glass.

Don't worry- we've got data and printouts for your amusement, and have even put tags on all the glass in our racks that offer reactive combinations. And a PDF link here.

Oh yeah, and we also have lots of Reactive Stringers and Noodles...

Boy, Am I Getting Old!

There used to be a time, years ago, when we heard the name Louis Comfort Tiffany spoken with reverence and awe in our store several times throughout the day.
You see, those were the 'sweet spot' times in our industry when art glass manufacturers were exploring, inventing and rediscovering all manner of interesting glasses such as Drapery, Ring Mottles, various iridescence, Fractures and Fracture/Streamers- of which many were the invention of Tiffany Studios back about a hundred years ago.
And we carried it all.
Heck, we even had our whole east wall full of lamp patterns and molds. We held full eight week classes just on lamp construction. Stocked well over 300 lamp bases at all times.
How things have changed.
We can blame the Chinese, which might be true only in that they now provide a reasonable product at a ridiculously low price (the morality of how those prices are achieved are a discussion best left for another day) which has devalued the efforts of our customers who now are making a lamp worth a tenth of what they used to be.
One thing that hasn't changed though, is the genius of Louis Tiffany, and the legacy of his work and its effect on our industry today.
He deserves to be better known. Check here for a great resource.

Conrad Black Sent Back to Prison

Despite public perception, former media baron Conrad Black is actually excited by the prospect of going back to prison.

The convicted felon and former Canadian has 13 months left to serve the rest of his fraud sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Miami, and now has the opportunity to continue the stained glass studies he had originally signed up for, which he had to sadly abort due to being given his freedom (albeit temporarily).

An added bonus for Mr. Black is that he is returning to the same prison where Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega is allegedly serving time for his role in a Columbian cocaine trafficking ring. The Puffster Himself is excited by the prospect of being able to study under Mr. Noriega as he is recognized as one of the best stained glass nite lite craftspeople in the entire U.S. penal system.

Boron Nitride EP Spray is not a very effective nasal spray because it's actually an aerosol temperature release primer. Something that we've been asked to bring in, but have been reluctant due to its price. But begging and bribing has its place. So we now carry it.
This type of primer can be used on ceramic molds but is ideal for stainless steel molds because you do not need to heat the mold for the primer to adhere. You can spray on the Boron Nitride Spray at room temperature. Apply 3-4 light coats. Sprays approx. 70-75 linear yards of primer. Excellent release properties with low layer thicknesses, excellent heat resistance great for slumping temperatures and short drying times.

Uroboros Heads and Tails

All the wonderful folks at Uroboros (and Kat) have heard about the great success of the Heads and Tails we brought in a couple of months ago.

But, we still gets lot of puzzled looks as what can be done with them.

The most obvious is to use it as you would any art glass, but with these pieces having the most interesting colour mix.

We've also heard about how some are using the rolled edges for the open end on a candle chimney or box lid.

Theresa (one of our instructors) has brought in some stuff she's made with her own unique take on these heads and tails.

To sweeten the pot and get some creative and competitive juices flowing Uroboros is sending some aprons, and t-shirts for us to give out to those who inspire us the most.

Bring in what you've made or send us a pic- you could be the talk of the town with your Uroboros branded swag!

On another note, we have a group from a charitable organization that make fused jewelry, Xmas Tree ornaments, garden stakes, business card holders, etc (many samples around the store) who have had great success using the ends and capping them with Spectrum Sys96 Clear (smaller pieces).

Black Patina Problem

Everyone (understandably) has been screaming over the current unavailability of black patina. According to our Canadian supplier, it's the fault of the Canadian government who has deemed black patina a hazardous substance and therefore not saleable in its current format.
But get this- they think buying it in a 2 gallon container with less labelling is just fine, or that copper patina in the same size bottle with the same labelling is perfectly safe.

New From Spectrum Glass

It's been a long time since we've seen anything new from Spectrum. Whether it's a function of J.M. retiring, or a slowdown in inspiration at Spectrum or lack of demand in the industry, we can only speculate. In any case, it sure ain't like to old days!

But getting anything new these days warrants our attention, hope and praise. So, just in the door is a new System 96 Grayish-Green opalescent glass that Spectrum's copywriter claims, was inspired by the elegant Asian Celadon pottery of centuries past. Mikey's copywriter says, yippee, a new colour, which is sort of okay, but misses the mark on colours we really could use, but we'll take it.

Big News Story Finally Revealed

The time has now come for Mikey to reveal the true purpose of his retelling of the story of Swiss Cheesed Glasswerks, a line of glass so magical and mysterious as to inspire awe in all those who cross it's hallowed threshold. As if merely retelling the story wasn’t good reason enough...
It seems that the executive board of Fantasy In Glass (read Pat) has been investigating ways to generate additional revenue and recently decided to offer for sale the naming rights to it's building and facilities here in Toronto's west end.
The Fantasy In Glass building (located at 703 The Queensway) is arguably the most recognizable commercial building in Southern Ontario, often serving as the centerpiece of the Etobicoke skyline. That’s why the naming rights for the building, when recently put up for grabs, generated significant interest from companies from all across Canada.
Mikey Figgy, current president, property manager and assistant janitor for this popular glass emporium, said that after advertising the building’s naming rights availability he noted that there was an onslaught of enquiries.
“The naming rights of this magnificent neo-classic 2-story building that sits just east of the intersection of Royal York Rd. and The Queensway would offer instant local and national recognition,’ he said.
“Signage of this building is an unparalleled marketing device. I really didn’t think there would be a blank fascia for long, and of course, I was correct, once again.”
“We’ve had all manner of businesses approach us, but one company stood out, head and shoulders above all others- and that company is Swiss Cheesed GlassWerks, one of the most respected and revered glass manufacturers producing glass today. A line of art glass originally influenced by the musings and wishes of Mikey, president of FIG Inc. and was just recently written about in The Diary of a Demented Store Owner.

That’s right folks, effective immediately, the building at 703 The Queensway, currently occupied by Fantasy In Glass, will now be officially known as 'The Swiss Cheesed GlassWerks Building!'

Appropriate signage identifying such has been put in place to reflect this great honour.
This agreement does not include various other possible licensing agreements in the future, such as contracts known as "pouring rights" for drink manufacturers.
Contrary to rumours, Mikey has not accepted a proposal by Gary Brown to rename the blue Denver kiln in the kiln room 'Brownie'.

While enjoying a simple, smooth and surprisingly satisfying mineral water at home the other night, Dutch Mason popped up on the turntable (vinyl rules!)- 'I Ain't Drunk' (don't read anything into that please, Dr. Freud)- a great song, and one that once again reminded me that not only is stained glass something that brings us all joy, but so can the workings of a great artist like Order of Canada recipient Mr. Mason.

It also reminded me about the often overlooked but incredible richness of our Canadian musical heritage, especially in the blues genre. Canada has given rise to David Wilcox, Paul James, Carlos de Junco, Fathead, Jeff Healey (who grew up just down the street from Fantasy In Glass), McKenna Mendelson Mainline, Big Sugar, Colin Linden, Downchild, Harry Manx, Matt Anderson, Sue Foley, Colin James, never mind the mainstream artists not even mentioned here.

As such, I have mandated August and September (one is not enough) as Canadian Blues Months at Fantasy In Glass. Don't like the blues, maybe try the malls, 'cuzz that's all we're going to play.

The Canadian dollar went up over $1.06 U.S. this week.
It used to be when the dollar floated just a penny or two below the U.S. dollar, one of our One and Only Canadian Stained Glass Suppliers was very quick to add a surcharge.
Now that the table's reversed, an only fair rebate still doesn't come.
Mikey doesn't wait.
Another truck delivery arrives tomorrow from the U.S.
Along with that comes a round of price reductions because of the low American dollar...

We've been getting a lot of interest in the Glassline Paint entry below, and they've been selling out so fast we only have about a third of our original order left! Here's a bit more info on them (boring alert)-

they are used as a lining and shading material for glass. They're simple in design, easy to use, and can be thinned with water. A metal tip set is recommended for fine line drawings on glass. The Tip Set consists of one each of the following size tips, find, medium, and bold (only $9.99/set). These tips are placed on the applicator bottle and used to achieve a variety of line widths.
The Glassline colors can be applied between multiple layers of glass or on the top surface for a complex dimensional look.
