Health Canada Recalls Lead-tainted toys- Stained Glass Retailers Rejoice

Toronto, ON- Health Canada is ordering retailers in Ontario to pull tens of thousands of items off their shelves after finding they were selling lead-tainted toys and children's products, according to a report. Officials say these items contain lead-levels in excess of allowable amounts. The lead-tainted items were sold in a variety of stores, including "dollar stores," and range from toys to products children put directly in their mouths, such as baby pacifiers.
According to the government of Canada's "Healthy Canadians" website, the recalled items include:
"My Baby" brand pacifier twin pack and silicone pacifier
Children's Charm craft kits ("Super Dooper Charms" and "Shoelace charms")
"GTZ Kool Charmz" charm gift bracelet
"Fairy Dust Pendants" and "Candle Charms"

In related news, the Stained Glass Retailers Association, led by Fantasy In Glass, a wondrous stained glass emporium in Toronto has agreed to buy up all returned, lead-tainted inventory. It seems that as there is only one source of supplies at the wholesale level, and since they have almost nothing in inventory, this is the only means to get hold of a decent lead supply for their stained glass customers.

I wanted you to know that the tainted toys that have been identified for lead in excess of the 'allowable limit' are on a voluntary basis because our laws in Canada do not force manufacturers to issue recalls, it is a suggestion. This is where serious concerns are for parents because these toys remain on the shelves for consumer purchase simply because we leave it to the retailers to enforce the recalls.

However, if you are being serious about the stained glass emporium actually buying the products - let me know because Health Canada is suppose to measure the success of recalls.

I'm not sure how to take your comment today, but as a proponent of free speech I'm more than willing to post it even though I am a little unsure of your point.
My intention would never be to make light of a serious situation as we also try to educate our customers to the dangers of lead (after all we do sell alot of the stuff), but if you've been reading my blog over the past several years, you should know that people understand that this blog writer's tongue is permanently affixed to his cheek (unlike other blogs where that tongue might be imbedded elsewhere and as such it is taken with the intent it was meant for...

... by the way, how is Health Canada supposed to measure the success of a recall that they can't make happen in the first place?

You joke but pathetically it's true.
We are saddled with an ineffective, incompetent supplier of which there is only one in Canada.

I'm constantly struggling with our only inept canadian supplier for lead to build our windows. The new owner has to be a bean counter type because if he actually knew that without lead he won't sell as much glass he might actually smarten up.

why is it whenever Mikey takes aim at the inadequacies of our Canadian monopoly supplier people comment here. Anyone calling or emailing 'them' directly or is this the only sounding board we have in Canada? PATHETIC!
I'm planning to, and more importantly I'll be emailing Mikey to let him know he's not alone (fig@fantasyinglass.com)
Love you Mikey!
