News Bulletin!

One of Canada's Stained Glass Distributors Decides to Abandon Wholesale Market!
Enters Retail and Plans to Destroy that Market As Well!

Just got a newsletter yesterday from one of our Canadian stained glass suppliers stating that they now will sell glass in 12" x 12" squares at wholesale!
Hey! Isn't that what all us still existing retail stores do to try and make a living?
I can only assume that since stores such as Celestial Glass and Glowing Panes have gone out of business (could poor supply availability frustration have been the cause?), this wholesaler sees an opportunity to get into the retail market.

Is it true that the wholesale supply industry is in such dire trouble that they now must try and sell glass as if they were a retail store. And in doing this they will take market share away from their existing clients, all while still wanting to sell to them as they compete with them.
That means that either their business model has failed to the extent that they are now aiming for the smallest wholesale customer- customers so small that they couldn't buy full sheets (and therefore perhaps shouldn't be buying at that wholesale level),... or worse yet, they now want to move into the retail market.
I wonder what the manufacturers who sell to them might think about this.
Never mind that- I wonder what all of our fellow retailers are thinking right now! I imagine they'd have to be a pretty nervous bunch.

Hey Mikey, you have nothing to worry about. They cocked up at wholesale, they'll cock up at this too. Besides, you have three times their inventory! Their cupboard is absolutely bare.

You know you are so right. H screwed up royally in wholesale and now they are scrambling. Totally msimanaged, pathetic.

It is obvious from the state of the warehouse- virtually empty and filthy that the ownership doesn't care and as a result is in trouble. They shant be round much longer for us to worry about me thinks. Hopefully to be replaced by someone who actially cares and knows how to run a business.

Dear Demented Store Owner Who Alone Speaks the Truth,
Heard a rumor that they are also going to pick up on your idea of 6" x 6" sale squares!

They should be ashamed the way they have decimated OUR INDUSTRY!!!
I only hope there is someone there to pick up the pieces when they are gone.

I agree with Mikey and all the other comments. One thing I'd like to add is:
I wonder how they will manage said squares. Will they be neatly displayed, labeled, and kept in stock??
Ha ha ha, that's funny

Are you kidding? I've been in there and seen a broken box of merchandise on the floor sit there for 6 months, never mind the long ago left coffee cups sitting in racks, and so on. The place is a pigsty, it is very obvious that there is no management and no prode from the staff. I can't wait to see another bad idea from the wholesaler flop with us left holding the bag,

You should be getting lots of business now because your pricing on sale squares is better than wholesale

Mikey, I would suggest you grab Xxxxxxx (employee of the late Yyyyyyyyy Glass) and give him a job before the house of cards comes down. He has been consistently positive, energetic, and helpful

Fantasy will always be the best spot for sale squares. Beautifully displayed all labeled with super prices and a downright ingenious way of packaging. That dump will NEVER come close

Dear Demented Store Owner,
It is obvious that this supplier of yours has no respect for this glass industry, nor any respect for his/her clientele. To start entering the realm of the retailer all while wanting to sell to them is shortsighted and without any business sense. It speaks to someone who doesn't see much more of a future and is merely trying to make the most for themselves and then leave the industry, in ruin.
